This scientific, interdisciplinary journal of medicine, psychology, anthropology and allied fields focuses on prenatal and perinatal conditions of human development and contains research and clinical experience on all aspects of prenatal and perinatal psychology and medicine.
Prenatal psychology and medicine represents a new science which studies and describes the experience and knowledge of circumstances during early prenatal human development and its continuity during the perinatal period and impact on the whole postnatal life of the individual. This concept involves largely the fields of psychotherapy, obstetrics, paediatrics, birth preparation, endocrinology, genetics, and reproduction with new technologies, fields of philosophy, ethics, etc. Pregnancy is considered to be a period of active dialogue (on the psychological-emotional and biochemical-endocrinological levels) between the mother (including the father and other bonding persons) and the prenatal child during which the prenatal child (rather than fetus) is considered to be a personality per se and even as a potential patient.
The goals of the Journal are to inform, promote, stimulate and encourage world-wide research and practice of pre-birth care from biological, psychological and sociological standpoints, accentuating the prophylactic potential for the primary prevention of later physical and mental disorders and illness. It is addressed to public the broad scientific and academic public and practitioners as well as interested lay persons.
